April 20 - Vail

Ever watch the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. At any moment, I expect to wake up to the same Sonny & Cher song as I continue to try to get this hip thing figured out.

Since my last post, I have grown sick and tired of being infirmed. I am NOT infirmed and refuse to be so. No more feeling sorry for myself. No more denial. No more!!

I have an appointment with Dr. Philippon on April 20. Physical therapy no longer does anything for me other than allow me to walk short distances more comfortably. It's time. I have a list of complaints and won't leave without a real, solid action plan to get me back to where I belong -- biking, hiking, backpacking -- without any trepidation or hesitation.

So, stay tuned my fellow hipsters. Life begins again very soon!

Is your appointment for surgery, or just an office visit for now? I think you'll be very happy having a plan. I suffer with some of the same thoughts that you do. Will I have to restrict my activities forever to avoid a 3rd, 4th, 5th surgery? I've been injured for 6 years now, if I only get to 90%, will that be worth it? I'm getting very nervous, 28 days to surgery with Dr P. but know I'll be in the right hands.

Your blog and talk about your psoas after surgery has prompted me to start seeing an active release practitioner so I can have some data points about whether I think I'll need a surgical release. So far, all signs point to yes.

Have you had anyone do ART on the rear part of your joint capsule? I was shocked at how much focusing on the rear helped keep the psoas out of the way. GAWD was it painful though. My chiro explained to me that a tight rear capsul is actually what ends up forcing the impingement to be worse than it otherwise would be. I still think I need a surgical release and look forward to hearing the doc's opinion on the matter.

Best of luck to you! I hope you get the answers you want and deserve.

April, I'm confused. Are you having hip arthroscopy for the first or second time? Do you have any info you can share on the recovery/rehab?

I have been diagnosed with a labral tear and am contemplating the surgery but dreading the rehab.

Thoughts?
